About...
Take a deep breath and close your eyes. Check in with yourself.
How are you doing? I mean really... Do you need something? Food, water, perhaps a rest? How's that jaw - any tension?
Our lives are so full of demands - work, family and social expectations, many of which we actually place on ourselves. And let's not forget our care responsibilities, domestic labour and the unrelenting life admin. How about we now add a layer of financial commitments and work obligations created and perpetuated by a modern capitalist society - whether or not you subscribe to this ideology.
Exhausted? Me, too.
Flowing Fibres is about stepping off the merry-go-round and checking in with yourself. It's about making time to slow down, to be creative and find some joy. And while I could sit here and talk about the 'proper' way to do things, I believe to my core that the greatest value is found in the joy of the journey. Process will always be more valuable than product or perfection.
If you want to learn how to meticulously place stitches for show pieces or have a project back that's as presentable as the front, I'm sure there a lots of other fibre artists perfect to help with this. You'll not find it here, though...
Life isn't perfect.
I'm not perfect.
Everything I create celebrates the joyful imperfection of embracing and accepting the now.
A little about my values...
For the avoidance of any doubt, I am a socialist who believes passionately in equity to achieve equality. I believe that life is hard enough without the presence of prejudice or discrimination on any grounds. I believe that capitalism and self interest are the primary cause of much of the world's problems. While I do not subscribe to capitalist ideology, this is the world we live in and we need money to live. So thank you for being here, for your support and orders - I appreciate you.
